How do they make all that smoke, anyway? This contraption: Even through the sterilizing medium of television, the excitement of the crowd is truly palpable. The New Pope: "I announce to you a great joy... we have a Pope." Joseph Ratzinger is the new Pope. His new name: Benedict XVI.
Posted by Will Franklin · 19 April 2005 11:13 AM CommentsHow long before we know who the new Pope will be? Posted by: taffy at April 19, 2005 11:22 AM Pope John Paul II will be a really hard act to follow! Although it seems the crowds are excited! I would think the new Pope might be a bit reluctent to step in after Pope John Paul II...A new era begins! Posted by: Zsa Zsa at April 19, 2005 11:31 AM I'm eagarly awaiting the emergence of our new pope! You're right - I think it would be hard not to convey the excitement among the crowd gathered at St. Peter's Square. It would be incredible to be there and share in the world's anticipation of the announcement. Posted by: Stacey at April 19, 2005 11:37 AM Will - You're quick! TB'd and then posted the link. Blogger's a little slow. Posted by: ARC: St Wendeler at April 19, 2005 12:15 PM Wow! The new Pope was a Nazi... But he asked for forgiveness and he got forgiven. That is pretty cool... Posted by: Zsa zsa at April 19, 2005 12:29 PM Was Ratzinger actually a 'nazi'? Only members of the nazi party were nazis - Ratzinger was in the Hitler Youth which was not the same thing. He was also in the wehrmacht, but that would not necessarily have made him a nazi either. Please debunk the idea that he was a 'nazi' - that is all you are going to hear about the guy from the MSM for the next few weeks. Posted by: Am I A Pundit Now? at April 19, 2005 02:21 PM Good news reporting. I woke up this morning to hearing there was no new Pope, to then that he had been chosen but not announced, and finally the real story.
