« Wednesday Caption Contest: Part 60. | WILLisms.com | China Pressures North Korea On Missile Test » Trivia Tidbit Of The Day: Part 346 -- Talk Radio Personalities.Evidence Of Mainstream Media Bias: The Best Alternative Media Sources Are Overwhelmingly Right-Of-Center- Why do liberal talk radio folks do so poorly? The numbers don't lie, after all: ![]() Source: TALKERS magazine. Very telling. It's not that liberals have lots of smaller radio personalities, while conservatives have a couple at the top. That would be the reverse of the blogosphere, where liberals control a few sites at the very top, while MANY, MANY more medium-sized conservative sites flourish. No, liberals fail at talk radio because liberal talk radio is nothing more than a reiteration of the establishment media message, with less professionalism and more honesty about biases.
Previous Trivia Tidbit: Death Taxes Are Fundamentally Unjust. Posted by Will Franklin · 21 June 2006 05:33 PM CommentsBob Brinker - there is some deadly boring talk radio right there boy, and he is still bigger than Al Franken and Randi Rhodes. Liberalism = pessimism, and people just don't want to hear that. Plus, before you can have a successful political talk show, you have to have a compelling radio personality - and the left just doesn't have any. Posted by: Ken McCracken at June 21, 2006 06:16 PM Ugh...I can't believe Michael Savage scored so high. How can anyone listen to him? The dude is a complete tool. I even agree with him a lot of the time and I can't stand him. Posted by: Rob at June 21, 2006 09:18 PM I have to admit, Michael Savage is completely loathsome, but he makes for compelling talk radio. I think he has an engaging on-air personality. But his views rank somewhere between those of Father Coughlin and Joseph Goebbels. [edit] Perhaps I should qualify that. Michael 'Savage' Weiner is not anti-semitic, he is Jewish. As such I think he should know better. Posted by: Ken McCracken at June 21, 2006 11:53 PM liberal radio is new. limbaughs been on for like 25 years and has tons of stations. it's not a fair comparison. Franken routinely beats O reilly in NYC and places like that. I doubt right wingers can ever comprehend left wing radio. it's like trying to watch PBS after a diet of Larry the Cable guy. Stephanie miller is awesome. not randi rodes though ughh Posted by: lester at June 23, 2006 05:15 PM Franken routinely beats O reilly in NYC and places like that. I doubt right wingers can ever comprehend left wing radio. it's like trying to watch PBS after a diet of Larry the Cable guy. The real purpose of political talk radio is both to make money and to influence the political agenda. If influence was not a goal, Soros would not dump millions into Air America. So what exactly does Air America do if you are looking to say it influences people in the bluest of blue states and people like the echo chamber? No, it is Liberals that do not comprehend left wing radio. Rush is a posterboy that provides the left with content to use against Republicans, but Rush fires up the base and has direct contact with 20M Right Wingers per week via his show. What does Randi Rhodes and the millions Soros is spending on Media Matters and others send to Air America buy? More voices in the echo chamber of media that the left already owns. These affiliates are losing money and only stay afloat because of liberal folks throwing money at them. PBS only stays afloat becuase the government subsidizes them. Air America provides an honest insight into the far left and that fires up the 20M people that listen to Limbaugh when he plays Randi Rhodes and Stephanie Miller quotes on his show to demonstrate them and their lunacy. If the Dems want to win elections, they have to distance themselves from the radical secular progressive left and Air America does not help that cause. And appealing to voters in New York does no good at all. It ain't getting any bluer and neither is Mass. And it isn't resonating in media markets other than the big cities where they have affiliates and where Democrats already win. The folks in the suburbs only hear clips on Rush's show and it fires up the Republican base because it shows the radical left wing agenda and exposes the Democrats for allowing Howard Dean and the progressives to run their party. Posted by: Justin B at June 24, 2006 04:06 AM I never thought of it like that, Ken. thanks for that. Posted by: Greensickle at June 24, 2006 11:57 PM justin- that's ridiculous. air america is designed to fire up the base the same way rush does. Kerry's campaign in 04 was exceesivly moderate and look where that got the dems. I bet Dean would have one. At least people could have rallied behind him instead of against Bush. Dean did a great job as governor and is conservative or libertarian on many issues. Posted by: lester at June 25, 2006 11:07 AM |
