« Anti-War Self-Delusion | WILLisms.com | Say Goodbye To Jadegold » Say It's Not So, MikeMichael Vick, quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for involvement in dogfighting. He has been indicted on federal charges because his dogfighting venture involved interstate travel to "South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, New York, Texas and other states" according to this story. Man, I really like Michael Vick. But if these charges prove to be true . . . strike his name from the tablets. Dogfighting is just brutal, and any loving pet owner would rightfully consider it unforgivable. Posted by Ken McCracken · 17 July 2007 07:47 PM CommentsThe NFL is a meatgrinder all by itself and we all give them a pass on that score mostly because the players choose to be a part of it. Bloodsports are something altogether different. Of the various guises it takes on the most vile has to be dogfighting. In my eyes a person who engages in and promotes dogfighting is simply a sick SOB and needs to be treated in a hospital for the mentally ill or incarcerated for a long, long time. Posted by: PatD at July 18, 2007 01:16 AM Read the article at the link for a fuller description about how mentally ill this dogfighting operation was. Posted by: Ken McCracken at July 18, 2007 01:32 AM What else do we expect from no-class a**holes? W should not be surprised, but what we shouldn't do is support his professional success. Oh, he can run, can he? A major talent? No other like him? How about we put his sweaty ass in a fenced field with a dozen pissed-off pit bull terriers? Let's see how well he can run for daylight then. I'd pay to see that. Usless piece of s***. Dan Patterson Posted by: Dan Patterson at July 18, 2007 07:21 AM I am going to have to go with what Dan Patterson just said... Well put , Dan! Posted by: zsa zsa at July 18, 2007 02:50 PM pac man jones..m vick.. the list is too long..u can take a monkey out of the jungle.... Posted by: rob at July 18, 2007 05:28 PM You don't have to be a pet owner to find this repugnant; all you have to do is be a civilized Westerner. It seems that Westerners are the only ones who care about non-human suffering. Unlike humans, animals don't have innate rights; they only have the "rights" we grant them. They don't have rights because they don't have souls. This makes it acceptable to eat, wear, and experiment on them. Even so, we insist on humane treatment, even of non-pet animals that will be eaten/worn/experimented upon. Still, this idea is new in the West; the first anti-cruelty law was passed in 1835 in the UK. In contrast, many non-Western societies have no problem with treating animals in ways we find barbaric. Filipinos like cock fighting. Moslems hate dogs--man's best friend--and often abuse them. Hmong believe that human disease suffering can be alleviated by animal suffering, so their shamans torture animals to "cure" a sick human. Animals in Asian zoos are often kept in tiny, filthy cages. The list goes on. (Bullfighting seems to be an aberration. However, Iberia was under Islamic occupation for centuries and the people there have a considerable admixture of Arab genes, making them less "Western" than the rest of Europe. Bullfighting is also popular in Mexico, which has an overwhelmingly (non-Western) Mestizo population.) Dogfighting is unacceptable by any Western standard of decency. Michael Vicks is a barbarian who has no place in our culture. Posted by: Nathan Hale at July 19, 2007 12:45 AM "Dogfighting is unacceptable by any Western standard of decency. Michael Vicks is a barbarian who has no place in our culture." As an owner of four dogs, one cat, and one pig, I find your description of M Vick more compassionate than mine. If I ever thought that one of my animals was sick, and sleeping in bed, next to me, with their head on a pillow would make them feel better, I would do it. Even the the pig, after all, in my earlier life, I used to sleep with ....never mind.... Posted by: Eneils Bailey at July 19, 2007 01:41 PM E.B., The Viking in me wants to separate M Vicks' ribs from his spine, jump on his back, and make his lungs inflate like fairy wings. The civilized American in me wants to see him incarcerated for a very, very long time (in solitary if he rapes anyone).
